Frequently Asked Questions
Availability (4)
As it becomes possible and/or as demand dictates.
Hayai has applied for and will be operating on a class A (pan-India) ISP license.
If we can justify it, yes, probably.
There needs to be enough people in your city/town/village to justify us rolling out services.
Please refer to our coverage map.
Choosing a plan (6)
The spending limit is a maximum bill amount that can be reached before we restrict your Internet use.
Data is charged at Rs10/GB, so for every rupee of your spending limit your usage will increase by 1/10th of a gigabyte (a little over 100MB) - a spending limit of Rs1,000 will equate to 100GB of usage, but once the spending limit is reached, the only websites you will be able to access are Hayai's, it's payment processors and the Hayai Zone.
We've made selecting a plan quite simple: we offer a variety of services in a "small, medium & large" format.
- Light users should take "Hayai Lite"
- Medium users should take either a data plan or one of the low-end flat-rate plans.
- Heavy users should take either a data plan or one of the high-end flat-rate plans.
We expect users to choose a plan suitable to their needs.
Yes.
We want to make it as easy as possible for you to pay your bill or top-up your account.
This would really only apply to flat-rate plans.
Should take effect within 1 hour of the change (depending on how it is submitted).
None, unless you are migrating from one type of service (wifi > copper > fiber) to another and a new installation/hardware is required.
Hardware (4)
If there is intentional damage or misuse, then you would have to pay for a replacement.
This cost will vary according to the hardware:
We will issue a warranty replacement (either new or refurbished depending on what is in stock).
For Fiber: Hayai will provide appropriate hardware in order to access the service. This device does not incur any additional charges to you, but remains property of Hayai.
For WiFi: No modem or router is required to use Hayai services over WiFi. In some buildings, we may recommend an external antenna to be mounted to your window in order to increase the signal in the event that we are unable to successfully maintain a stable speed of at least 3mbit/s inside your home. A one-time cost of Rs1,000 would apply if it is required.
Installation (3)
3-months. For those willing to sign a 12 month contract
It depends on your area, as we are connecting people based on the area - partially for efficiency and partially because demand in some areas is stronger than others.
This depends on the plan you are subscribing to and what category of customer you are. Please see the page relating to your chosen plan for more information.
Policies (13)
As Hayai is only required to comply with the laws of India and orders of Indian courts, Hayai will not entertain any requests of any kind from outside of India unless the same is also received by way of an Indian court and/or the DoT and/or TRAI, at which point, any and all requests affecting customers will be published in full on our website.
While we can see some of where the organizations pushing this bill forward are coming from, we do not think that the bill in it's current form is the way to go.
Very safe. The connection between you and our equipment is secured with industry-standard encryption and cannot be easily tapped in to in the same way that a copper connection can be, because the signal is not electrical, it's light.
It is, however, up to you to install appropriate security software (anti-virus and firewall) on your computer(s) to ensure that you do not become infected with malicious software (malware).
No. However, if we think you're abusing the network (that is, you are well above the FUP for your plan), we'll let you know and we'll try to resolve it with you directly, either by asking that you mitigate your usage or upgrade your plan.
In case of an emergency (such as an outbreak of malicious software is saturating your line), we reserve the right to suspend your connection until you rectify the problem.
Fair usage works both ways. We provide you with a flat-rate price and high speeds in exchange for reasonable use of the network. Use the network in a responsible manner, don't hog or waste bandwidth.
Traffic shaping may occur on flat-rate
You can, but since our equipment will include WiFi capability, why would you want to?
If Hayai is required to block a website per a directive from the DoT, we will comply.
As we must only comply with the laws of India and any international treaties it may sign with other countries, we have no intention of responding to queries from foreign agencies unless an order is issued by an Indian court.
Indian law requires that we do maintain (somewhat extensive) user logs for all access. This is also one reason why we have added WiFi to all of our equipment - it save you having to register the equipment with us and allows us to have a convenient central authentication system so that you may use your account anywhere you can find someone with an access point.
We comply with Indian law to the extent that is required.
Within Hayai's network, always, speeds are synchronous at up to 1Gbit/s. Outside of Hayai's network, it depends on the plan you have subscribed to:
For Data plans, whatever you buy down, you also get up, eg 100Gbytes Download + 100Gbytes Upload.
Terminology (4)
Hayai's Data plans are limited only by how much data you purchase - we do not place speed limits on this service.
They are available in both pre-paid and post-paid options:
- For pre-paid data, you purchase any amount of data you choose and it is valid for up to 1 year or until it is used, whichever is first.
- For post-paid data, you set a billing limit. If you reach this limit, the Internet will become unavailable and you will have to either revise your limit or commit an ad-hoc part-payment to your account.
What is Hayai Zone?
A Gigabyte is 1,073,741,824 (230) bytes. 1,024 Megabytes, or 1,048,576 Kilobytes.
- 894,784 pages of plaintext (1,200 characters)
- 4,473 books (200 pages or 240,000 characters)
- 341 digital pictures (with 3MB average file size)
- 256 MP3 audio files (with 4MB average file size)
- About 1.3 700MB CD's
- About 0.25 DVD's
Flat-Rate is *like* unlimited, but we think of it more like "flat-rate" (as in price), rather than "unlimited" (as in usage).
In order to try and mitigate abuse, Hayai has attached Fair Usage Policies to it's flat-rate plans which we think are quite fair - both to you, and to us. The best way to work out the FUP on a residential plan is to take the total price (including tax) and divide by 10.
